Pirates probably didn’t use the language normally attributed to them (e.g., ahoy, mates, shiver me timbers, etc.) This myth probably came about through the actor Robert Newton in the popularization of Treasure Island. Pirates probably talked like normal sailors of the time.

These Proposed Panel Speakers Support Sex Changes for Children, With Safeguards. A Top Child Psychiatry Group Won’t Let Them Speak at Its Annual Conference.

Many of the European countries that were once leaders in the transgender treatments have now stopped or significantly curtailed these treatments until further long-term studies have been conducted. However the U.S. medical establishment is an outlier in terms of allowing these treatments to go ahead with virtually no safeguards. This article discusses how The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) had three proposals of panels of international doctors discussing why some countries are urging caution, and all three panels were rejected, even though they had tried to have balanced discussions. The AACAP said there was not enough space for these panels to present, even though they accepted 10 panels that had positive messages about acceptance of transgender treatments.
