Humans are creatures of habit. If you quit when things get tough, it gets that much easier to quit the next time. On the other hand, if you force yourself to push through it, the grit begins to grow in you.
Travis Bradberry
Success leads to success. But here’s something that may surprise you. The size of the success doesn’t seem to matter very much. When you feel successful at something, even if it’s tiny, your confidence grows quickly, and your motivation increases to do that habit again.

6 Mighty Facts (and Myths) About Pirates
Pirates probably didn’t use the language normally attributed to them (e.g., ahoy, mates, shiver me timbers, etc.) This myth probably came about through the actor Robert Newton in the popularization of Treasure Island. Pirates probably talked like normal sailors of the time.
They also didn’t make treasure maps that told where they had buried their bounty. They generally spent the money they gathered almost immediately.
Some pirates were women.
Most pirates didn’t have peglegs. Some did have parrots. They did use the skull and crossbones flag to intimidate other boats, but they often flew a false flag first (a friendly one), when they were approaching a boat, and then switched to the skull and crossbones flag once they got within striking distance.

These Proposed Panel Speakers Support Sex Changes for Children, With Safeguards. A Top Child Psychiatry Group Won’t Let Them Speak at Its Annual Conference.
Many of the European countries that were once leaders in the transgender treatments have now stopped or significantly curtailed these treatments until further long-term studies have been conducted. However the U.S. medical establishment is an outlier in terms of allowing these treatments to go ahead with virtually no safeguards. This article discusses how The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) had three proposals of panels of international doctors discussing why some countries are urging caution, and all three panels were rejected, even though they had tried to have balanced discussions. The AACAP said there was not enough space for these panels to present, even though they accepted 10 panels that had positive messages about acceptance of transgender treatments.

Clinicians Are Talking: Euthanasia for Mental Illness – Right or Wrong?
This issue is one that you may have clients occasionally bring to you. In the U.S., in some states it is legal for medical doctors to assist clients with terminal medical illnesses if those patients request Medical Assistance in Dying. In Canada a new law was proposed to allow clients with certain mental illnesses to also request it. Because of the large amount of controversy, the implementation date of this expansion has been pushed from March 2023 to March 2024. Hey, America, Grow Up!
A former student sent this article to me. You may not be able to access it if you do not have a subscription to the New York Times. David Brooks gives an overview of some of the psychological mindsets that have been impacting our American culture (and our counseling offices). I think he makes some helpful points for us to consider. I believe the healthiest source for our self-identity comes from Scripture and what God has said about us.
See what you think.

More studies will be done, but if they show similar success, this will be an important step forward for those whose kidneys have stopped working.
