A transformative learning event for pastors, church leaders,

and Christian counselors

Description

Addiction is one of the most misunderstood issues in the church today. Often cloaked in shame, silence, and secrecy, substance use disorders have a lifetime prevalence of one third of the US population, impacting countless families in our congregations—and yet few churches feel equipped to respond wisely and compassionately. One of every 4 children is raised in a home with at least one addicted parent. Sufferers are often “hiding in plain sight”.

In this timely, research-backed presentation, mental health counselor Wynne Stallings, LMHC, QS, CAP and Lyle Fried, CAP, a long-time treatment professional and a seasoned pastor in Recovery Church Movement, offer a practical, theologically grounded understanding of what addiction truly is—and how the Church can become a powerful part of the solution.

 Learning Objectives

•Understand addiction as a progressive medical disease—not just a moral failing.

•Learn how AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) works—and why it aligns more with Christian discipleship than many realize.

•Explore the biblical and historical roots of the 12 Steps of AA.

•Discover how your church can build bridges to recovery by:

  - Hosting or supporting 12-Step and recovery ministries.

  - Building partnerships with clinicians and Christian treatment centers.

  - Creating safe spaces for testimony, education, and healing.

  - Referring out with discernment and without shame.

Why This Matters

Addiction isolates. The Church is designed to restore.

When we reduce stigma, build partnerships, and understand our role in the healing process, the body of Christ can truly function as one—many parts, one mission.

“If one member suffers, all suffer together… Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”

—1 Corinthians 12:26–27

Ideal Audience

•Pastors and associate pastors

•Church elders and lay leaders

•Christian counselors, coaches, and mentors

•Small group leaders and recovery ministry teams

Join us for this compassionate, clarifying, and Christ-centered conversation. Together, we can build bridges to lasting transformation—for the addict, the family, and the Church.

                                     Presenters

 Wynne Stallings LMHC CAP

Owner, SoulSpring Counseling Inc.

Wynne Stallings is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Addiction Professional, and Qualified Supervisor with nearly 30 years of experience. She specializes in family systems, Complex PTSD, and the long-term effects of childhood and relational trauma. Her work helps adults of all ages build healthier relationships—with themselves, others, and their faith.

She has spoken on addiction and family dynamics, appeared on A&E’s Intervention, and created group and family programs across multiple treatment settings. She’s now expanding her work to help individuals break free from narcissistic abuse—another form of toxic family trauma. She is committed to educating Christians and fellow therapists on the power of 12 Step programs to transform lives, families, congregations, and communities.

Wynne believes no one should have to live miserably—if they don’t have to. She’s seen how a living faith, healthy community, and personal agency can change everything—bringing peace when we stop trying to control what we can’t, and real life change when we take charge of what we can. The key in healing is knowing the difference.
