Description: Goal: The main goal is to provide an understanding of EMDR, including how it works, the science behind it, and what to expect during treatment.
Objectives:
1) To gain an understanding of EMDR as a structured therapy designed to help people process and integrate traumatic or distressing memories. 2) To explain the Neurobiology of Memory Formation, 3) To expound on the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, 4) To learn the "Three-Stage Approach" to EMDR Treatment therapy which follows a structured 8-phase model, & 5) To illustrate the EMDR Target Sequence Plan (TSP) as a roadmap for therapy.

Dr. Steven Vensel
Dr. Vensel has worked in the Christian counseling field for more than 25 years, has a Ph.D. in Counseling from FAU, and has served as the Department Chair in PBA's counseling program. Dr. Vensel is the Associate Editor and Co-Author of “Mental Health and Mental Disorders: An Encyclopedia of Conditions, Treatments, and Well-Being.” He has used this method with many couples who have experienced infidelity.

Dr. JoAnn "JoJo" Kutsukos
Dr. JoAnn Kutsukos is a licensed mental health counselor and certified addiction professional in the state of Florida. As an experienced therapist who has assisted hundreds of clients in overcoming mental, emotional, and relational distress, she specializes in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Therapy sessions address the automatic, intermediate, and core beliefs and adapt to a preferred belief system. JoAnn holds her doctoral degree in Counseling Education Supervision from National Louis University located in Tampa, Florida. Her dissertation research was on EMDR to treat addiction and comorbid trauma. JoAnn is currently researching two studies that focus on a pilot study to measure EMDR’s effectiveness with a newly developed inventory. Additionally, another study that is first in this country to research student burnout utilizing Autonomous EMDR. More to be revealed as the projected completion date will be January 2026. JoAnn is an EMDRIA approved consultant/certified EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) specialist, extensively trained in DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), and CRAFT (community reinforcement and family training), to assist individuals and families overcome their immediate and/or prolonged concerns.
